Medicine and Society highlights various topics in the fields of medical ethics and bioethics that affect everyone.  Guests include a variety of medical and bioethics experts from around the Charlotte region and across the country.  Recent topics have touched upon issues such as health care reform, the ethics of medical research, challenges posed by new developments in genetics and reproductive medicine, and fears about the aging and dying process.  Some of the program’s past guests include:

Business and Society highlights various topics in business ethics that affect everyone.  Guests include a variety of business leaders around the Charlotte region.  The aim of the series is to tackle thorny ethical issues involving the globalization of U.S. industry, patent disputes, labor negotiations, profit making, unemployment, and corporate integrity.  The series' first guest was Katie Tyler, President, Tyler 2 Construction.  She addressed matters related to treating employees fairly.

Rosemarie Tong, PhD, Director, Center for Professional and Applied Ethics interviews Jessica Schorr Saxe, MD, Family Physician at Carolinas Medical Center-Biddle Point and Anne Walker, MD, Walker Pediatrics on the latest episode of Medicine and Society. They cover the topic, “Partnering to End Obesity: Physicians, Families and Community.” Each physicians discusses what roles the physicians can take in controlling childhood obesity. What advice they can give to family members on providing healthier eating habits and how the society can help promote a healthier lifestyle. Dr. Saxe and Dr. Walker also share personal stories of how their patients were successfully treated.
